Een crossing border Dome Theater.
Crossing border is een mengvorm van disciplines die elkaar versterken en leiden tot een integraal model. Het Infoversum is zo’n bijzondere opgave. Door initiatiefnemer Edwin A. Valentijn is de combinatie architectengroep ARCHIVIEW, Centraalstaal Groningen en Vuyk engineering Groningen in een vroeg stadium betrokken bij het proces.

Deze combinatie had net een studie afgerond om de bouwmethodiek van de scheepsbouw te integreren in het bouwproces. Een omschakeling in de denkwijze met een grote verscheidenheid aan mogelijkheden. Het combineren van huid en constructie, de vorm van stroken, de complexe oppervlakte modellering en de huidplaat afwikkeling boden nieuwe oneindige mogelijkheden voor de architectuur. 3D stapelen werd 3D vormgeving.

Samen met de opdrachtgever is er een architectuurvisie ontwikkeld met betrekking tot plaats, opdrachtgever, programma van eisen en de spanning tussen massa en materiaal. Een complexe opgave die versterkt wordt door zijn eenheid in diversiteit, in massa en uitstraling voldoet aan de wensen van de opdrachtgever, maar in zijn architectuur een duidelijke stelling inneemt en die vloeit in de huidige aanwezige structuur en deze versterkt. Het gebouw is derhalve een inspirerend instrument geworden bij het vormgeven aan de uiteenlopende activiteiten. Dit komt tot uiting in de inrichting, functionele opbouw van de specifieke gebieden en de materiaalkeuze in relatie tot gebruik. In het meegroeiende programma van wensen dat als leidraad diende is de dagelijkse realiteit in beleving van het gebouw vertaald met behulp van thema’s en associaties. Het karakter in relatie tot vrijheid geeft een zintuigelijke en fysieke ervaring waarin licht in relatie tot ruimtelijkheid een belangrijke rol spelen. Grote aandacht is besteed aan de overgangen, relaties, licht, de routing en wijze waarop men hierop inspeelt denkend vanuit de gebruiker en het programma.

Door continu te versimpelen en ontwerpend te blijven zoeken naar eenduidigheid, duidelijkheid, helderheid maar vooral naar consequentie ontstaat een abstractie die ruimte laat voor invulling aan de beschouwer. Een zorgvuldig ontworpen ruimte of gebouw dringt zich niet op maar laat zich als een spiegel voor emoties op vele manieren aflezen en beleven en blijft daardoor dynamisch in de tijd. Dit heeft geleid tot een flexibel systeem dat conceptueel paste binnen de filosofie en uitdaging van de architectuur en opdrachtgever.

De basis van het ontwerp is de dome het hart van het gebouw en de drager van de dynamiek. Onderzoek naar grootte en helling van de projectiedome hebben de organisatie en beleving van het gebouw constant beproefd. Door intensieve samenwerking is programma, vorm en techniek integraal toegepast tot optimalisatie van de mogelijkheden. Met als laatste controle een 3D wandeling door het gebouw in het visualisatiecentrum. Dit heeft geleid tot een state-of-the-art, innoverend, trendsettend en inspirerend infoversum. De dome is het centrum de metalen oogbal van het ontwerp. De cortenstalen oogkas (huid) vormt zich om de dome. De huid en de dome raken elkaar niet. De openingen geven het licht de kans om te spelen in de ruimte.

De huid verjongt aan de voorzijde en geeft een opening voor de entree van het infoversum. Men betreedt de infowave, een digitale presentatieruimte, een visuele interactieve belevingsruimte. Via een hellingbaan betreedt men de hoger gelegen Infodome, een digitale theaterruimte voor crossingborder activiteiten. Vanuit de infodome betreed je de foyer. De foyer die enerzijds leidt naar de uitgang, de hellingbaan naar beneden of naar de inforoof. De inforoof is een tweede maaiveldniveau waar buitenevenementen kunnen plaatsvinden. Over de hellingbaan kan men het infoversum verlaten of de foyer binnenkomen. Zo is de beweging (routing) geoptimaliseerd.

Crossing border is a combination of disciplines that can reinforce each other, resulting in an integrated model. The “Infoversum“ (Infoverse) is an exceptional task. The initiator, Edwin A. Valentijn, has involved the combination of the architecture firm ARCHIVIEW, Centraalstaal Groningen, and Vuyk Engineering Groningen at an early stage in the process.

This combination had just completed a study on the integration of ship building methodology into the construction process. A switch in mentality with a large diversity in possibilities. In concert with the client, an architectural vision was developed, which relates to location, client, schedule of requirements, and the tension between mass and material. It is a complex undertaking that, strengthened by its consistency in diversity, volume, and appearance, meets the wishes of the client, yet makes a clear stand in its architecture that fluidly transitions into, and reinforces, the existing structure. Consequently, the building has become an inspiring tool in the design of diverse activities. This aspect surfaces in the organisation and functional setup of the specific areas, as well as the choice of materials in relationship to use. In the concurrently evolving schedule of requirements, which served as a guideline, the daily reality has been translated into the perception of the building by means of themes and associations. The character, relative to freedom, provides a sensory and physical experience in which light, relative to spaciousness, plays an important role. Considerable attention has been devoted to the transitions, relationships, light, routing, and the manner in which we take these into account from the perspective of the user and the schedule. By continuously searching for coherence, clarity, and transparency, but above all for consistency, in a simplifying and designing manner, we create an abstraction that provides the viewer with an opportunity for interpretation. A carefully designed space or building does not impose itself, but acts a mirror for emotions that can be viewed and experienced in many ways and that consequently remains dynamic through time. This resulted in a flexible system, which conceptually matched the philosophy and challenge of the architecture and client.

The dome is the basis for the design; the heart of the building and carrier of the dynamic. Analysis into size and slope of the projection dome proved to be a constant test for the organisation and perception of the building. Through intensive collaboration, the schedule, design, and technology have been integrally applied up to the highest optimisation of the possibilities. With as a last check, a 3D walkthrough through the building in the visualisation centre. This has yielded a state-of-the-art, innovative, trendsetting, and inspiring Infoverse.

The dome is the centre, the metal eyeball, of the design. The Corten steel eye socket (shell) envelops the dome. The shell and the dome do not touch. The openings allow the light to meander through the space. The shell rejuvenates the front and provides an opening for the entrance to the Infoverse. We enter the Infowave, a digital presentation room. A visual experience room. Via a ramp, we access the Infodome, located at a higher level. It is a digital theatre for optimal crossing-border activities. The Infodome provides access to the lobby. The lobby is a three-way intersection leading to the exit, the ramp down, and the Inforoof. The Inforoof is a second ground level for outdoor events. Via the ramp, you can leave the Infoverse or enter the lobby. As such, movement (routing) has been optimised.
